Iris is a Cuban multi-instrumentalist, artist, and educator based in Boston. Passionate about Afro-Latin rhythms, vibrant cultures, and the classical repertoire, she seamlessly blends these influences into her music. As a composer and arranger, her greatest inspirations include Bach, Leo Brouwer, Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim, Los Van Van, and João Gilberto, shaping her sound with a wide spectrum of textures and styles.
With a rich performance history, Iris has played with numerous bands and at prestigious venues such as the Amadeo Roldán Theater in Havana, the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, and Jordan Hall in Boston, as well as at various festivals along the East Coast. Sharing the stage with amazing artists like Clave & Blues, Manolo Mairena, Juan de Marcos, Los Adolescentes, Jeremy Bosch, Frankie Ruiz Jr., and many others as the bass player in these wonderful bands, and now producing her debut album with Rosewood & Strings, her latest project as a songwriter and bandleader. This new production brings together her Cuban and Latin roots with her classical training, creating a distinctive and evocative musical fusion.
